Franziska / Berlin

Nice to meet you! I’m Franziska from Berlin, Germany.

How long have I been longboard dancing?

In September 2017 I was in Prague all by myself for some days and walked by a skate shop. I wanted to skate since forever but by whatever reason never started, so I went into the shop and got a small trick skateboard. When I was back in Berlin I started to learn how to push without falling. Somewhen later a friend of mine sent me a video of Hyojoo dancing on her board. I was SO STOCKED! I started researching and finally went into a longboard shop in Berlin Wedding (yes, that’s a district :D) in November 2017 to get my first setup. I was super unsure about having such a big board and paying more than planned but it was so worth every Penny and yes, you need a board that big. After that I started practicing on my own, watched youtube videos and went out practicing again. I didn’t know anybody else who did longboard dancing by then, which only changed about half a year later.

What’s my current dancing setup?

Deck: Bastl Bolero
Wheels: Blood Orange Morgan Pro Series 65mm/80A
Trucks: Paris v2s
Bearings: Bones Reds

What motivated me to start longboard dancing?

Street skateboarding has this cool touch, but is also quite aggressive. When I saw longboard dancing it had some kind of magic around it which fascinated me. Starting it was exciting but this transformed quite fast into meditation for me. When you’re on the board you can’t overthink your world, you’re in the here and now and all your concentration goes into your board. I love it!

What’s been my favorite longboard dancing experience thus far?

Being in a longboard camp, surrounded by other like-minded people was mind-blowing. I didn’t know anybody else having the same hobby by then as I started when Winter was approaching Berlin and Tempelhofer Feld, my home skate spot, was just empty. Being in the camp felt like arriving home. I recommend it to everybody, I really do!

What’s my favorite move to do on a longboard?

I like spins of all kind, just swirling around on the board and feeling the air around me.

What cool things do I like to do, other than longboard dancing?

I do endurance barbell training on a regular basis, sew my own clothes, got an indoor jungle at home and love rock and alternative concerts.

How can you get in touch with me?

I’m @franzitan on Instagram. And, well, just come to Tempelhofer Feld. You usually find me there two to three times a week. Tempelhofer Feld is an old airport transformed into a huge community park in the middle of the city. There’s an area with super smooth asphalt on the Neukölln side, near U-Boddinstraße and U-Leinestraße. This is the spot where the Berlin longboard gang usually meets up. Just join us!
